Why we started

Serious knowledge deserved to feel alive again.

Rebel Thinkers began with a simple frustration: much of the knowledge worth keeping had become either too dry to love or too shallow to trust. We wanted to build books that make people slow down, look closer, and rediscover the pleasure of understanding how the world was made.

Our answer was not another ordinary history book. It was a new kind of illustrated encyclopedia: deeply researched, visually rich, physically beautiful, and designed to become part of the home.

Curiosity

For adults who never stopped asking why.

We make books for readers who still want the world explained with depth, patience, and wonder.

Conversation

Books that pull people back into the room.

The Codex was designed to be opened together: by parents and children, friends, guests, and anyone who loves a good question.

Craft

Objects worth keeping.

In an age of disposable content, we believe some knowledge should arrive as a lasting physical object.

The Codex book printing and creation process

Research, illustration, editing, printing, and production all had to become one system.

Our Ukraine story

A Ukrainian creative team, building through uncertainty.

Rebel Thinkers was founded by three friends from Kyiv: Vlad Khvyshchuk, Nazar Ozhho, and Danylo Ozhho. The Codex grew from our shared love of history, illustration, and books that feel meaningful when you hold them.

After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the project became more than a publishing idea. It became a way to keep Ukrainian creative work visible, paid, and connected to readers around the world.

Backed by readers

Kickstarter proved this idea had a home.

We launched The Codex on Kickstarter because we wanted readers to decide whether this kind of book still mattered. Thousands of backers supported the first volume, shared it with friends, waited through production, and helped turn Rebel Thinkers from a strange idea into a real publishing house.
